The Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities seeks to acquire the successor of its current system, SuperMUC-NG. As a leadership-class supercomputing user facility, LRZ serves a broad range of users in academic research from various domains with its flagship system computing applications from modeling and simulation, data analytics and artificial intelligence.

Codenamed ExaMUC, the new system will again be a national supercomputing resource and is expected to deliver outstanding performance for a spectrum of user applications and a diversity of workloads.

Interested Offerors must submit all communication (questions, comments, etc.) about the ExaMUC RFP to the LRZ ExaMUC Procurement Team at examuc-procurement@lrz.de. Innovation Partnership

The contract will be awarded in an innovation partnership, as detailed in the RFP documents.

The innovation partnership is a multi-stage procedure:

  • Open Call Phase: Valid requests to participate must contain the evidence required in Chapter 1.2 of the procurement document 02-Bewerbungs- und Vertragsbedingungen ExaMUC.
The requests to participate will be reviewed by the ExaMUC procurement team and a small number of bidders will be selected for participation in the next round.
  • Negotiation Phase: The concept studies for a proposed system together with proposals for target prototypes will be negotiated with the selected bidders. At the end of the negotiation phase, all bidders will be asked to submit their offers for the prototype co-design phase of the Innovation Partnership.
  • Co-Design Prototype Phase: Selected prototype bidders will develop, through a co-design process with the ExaMUC Evaluation Team, one or more prototype systems with technical innovations in both hardware and software.
  • Selection and Service Phase: In the final phase, the selected prototype bidders can then submit their final system bids for ExaMUC, based on the results from the prototype phase and the final offers. A final partner will be selected to deliver, install, and maintain the ExaMUC supercomputer.
